Folded Heart Painting

For this weeks stART we read Elmo’s Valentine.image Connor received this little board book for Valentines Day 2 years ago from his grandma.

Elmo makes a valentine which then gets passed around through Sesame Street to different characters and then back to Elmo again.

The book comes with a little cardboard valentine heart that gets put into a little slot on each page. Somehow we have managed to not lose it over these couple years!

And then we made folded heart paintings with construction paper hearts and medicine droppers.

I folded a piece of construction paper in half (the colors of their choosing) and cut a heart out.IMG_0289

I sucked a little bit of paint into a dropper (again, the color of their choosing) and let them push the paint onto the heart and make designs. It didn't suck up the paint as well as i hoped it would but for Connor this worked fine.IMG_0290

Brianna couldn't press the paint out so instead she used her dropper like a paintbrush. She liked making dots.IMG_0292

We then folded the hearts and pressed them down.IMG_0293

Everytime we opened the hearts they wanted to add more paint. Connor only wanted to use green while Bri wanted a different color everytime. Here are the end results:IMG_0313

Come see what others did at A Mommy’s Adventures!

  1. I love this idea for painting and they both came out great. My daughter LOVES Elmo...I will have to try and find her this book :)

  2. The mirror image paint technique is a fun one to use. Elmo, with his bright red color, makes for a perfect Valentine's Day character!

  3. What a great idea! Will need to remember this for when M is older. Love how their projects turned out!

  4. What a great project!! I never thought to use those medicine droppers for painting, we have a bunch that the numbers rubbed of so I can't use them for Juliette's medicine anymore. They will be perfect for this.

Thank you so much for linking up to stART!!

  5. Hey I sent you an award
